FAQ’s

Everything you need to know about our garden rooms, the design process, planning and installation.

Design

  • YES, we have many customers who have installed blinds throughout their building. Most of our rooms come with the options to include factory fitted blinds, We can also recommend someone to fit blinds? Yes. We have a couple of preferred suppliers of blinds.
  • Yes, we offer climate control units for our garden rooms. These units are available in two sizes: 2.5kw and 3.5kw, depending on the size of your garden room. Our electricians and specialist partners will professionally install the units to ensure that they are properly functioning and efficient. In addition to the internal climate control unit, you will also need to facilitate the installation of an external unit to complete the air conditioning system. If you are interested in adding a climate control unit to your garden room, please let our team know and we will be happy to provide you with more information and a customised quote.
  • It is possible to add windows or doors to the original design of your garden room. If you would like to make these changes, we recommend contacting the sales team for more information. They will be able to provide you with the necessary guidance and assist you with the process of modifying the design to incorporate new windows or doors. Keep in mind that depending on the location and size of the new openings, you may need to obtain planning permission and Building Regulations approval. The sales team will be able to advise you on the specific requirements for your project.
  • Our average garden room build time is 20 working days, however this will depend on any additional services you require.  As we use structurally insulated panels for our garden rooms, the actual construction part of the garden room is relatively quick and easy. For larger, more intricate garden room projects, that may involve plumbing in bathrooms or kitchens as well as electrics and media equipment, a bespoke timeline would be required. Many clients choose to have their garden landscaped or paving added after the garden room has been constructed, which would also require extra time. Why not book a free site survey with our ITTGR team to guide you through the process, provide you with a quote and an idea of timings for your garden room project.
  • If you want Wi-Fi in your garden room, this is easy to do. You could simply run an ethernet cable from your property to the garden room and connect it to a Wi-Fi router. Alternatively, you may be able to access the Wi-Fi signal from your home. To do this, you might need a Wi-Fi extender or Wi-Fi repeater, which boosts the signal and makes it easier to access the main Wi-Fi signal.
  • Garden gyms can be any size you want, but they must be under 10m x 10m if you don’t want to apply for planning permission. However, they don’t have to be this large. In general, a garden gym of 3m x 3m is about the smallest you will probably want it to be. 5m x 4m is probably more common, but it depends on how you will use it and the size of equipment you want it to keep inside.
  • Of course! This is a query we receive very regularly. The installation of water and waste connections for toilets, sinks, showers and kitchen facilities is becoming more and more common. After all, many people spend an increasing amount of time in their garden rooms, and they want to enjoy all the features they have in their own homes. The standard connection option is a very traditional method of trenching and connecting to the nearest mains foul drain and the nearest water supply. There are building control regulations we need to adhere to, but this is something that we deal with for you so there is no need to worry. The connections will all be signed off by building control, and we will provide you with all the paperwork to prove it.
  • Getting Wi-Fi in your garden studio is very easy. If your studio is close enough to your property, you may be able to connect to your main Wi-Fi connection. If not, one option is to invest in a Wi-Fi booster, which you can plug into a socket in your studio. This will boost your home’s Wi-Fi signal to improve the connection. Another alternative is to get a separate Wi-Fi service and install a router in your studio.
  • It’s easy to get Wi-Fi in your garden office. You may be able to connect to your home’s Wi-Fi connection if you are close enough. However, if this is not possible, you could use an Wi-Fi extender in your garden room, which boosts your home’s Wi-Fi connection so you can connect to it from further away.
  • Your garden office can be as large as you want it to be. However, there are a few regulations surrounding the size of garden rooms and offices if you want to install a garden room without requiring planning permission. For example, the height of the eaves must be no more than 2.5 metres, and it must be under 10m2 in size. Please ask us for full details on the latest regulations. ““

Construction

  • Cladding a timber frame building is a very good idea. Not only does it provide protection from the elements, but it looks beautiful too. If you plan to clad your own timber building, it is best to follow a guide online because it is quite a large task. The alternative is to order a garden room that comes complete with cladding so you don’t have to worry about it. ““
  • Yes, it is absolutely worth insulating a summerhouse. Despite the name, there is no reason you should only use your summerhouse in the summer. With high-quality insulation and double-glazed windows, you can enjoy a cooler summerhouse in the summer while staying snug and warm during the winter months. ““

  • Can I heat my garden room?

You can easily heat your garden room to stay warm throughout the winter. We offer several ways to heat your room. For example, you could use one of our climate control units and then use this to easily control the temperature of your garden room. Not only will this provide a great source of warmth in the winter months, but it will also provide ice-cold air to keep you cool in the summer. All our units are professionally installed by certified electricians and each is timer and thermostat controlled. Underfloor heating is also offered as an extra service, or you may prefer dual air conditioners/heating, wall-mounted electric heaters or even a log burning stove. For our signature and bespoke rooms, we work closely with you to scope out the best and most cost-effective way to heat your garden room that can include:
    • Underfloor heating
    • Wall mounted radiators or electric heaters
    • Dual air conditioners/heaters
    • Free-standing oil filled radiators
    • Log burning stoves
  • Four stunning options to choose from. Your choice of high-quality and durable laminate flooring in smart oak, tawny chestnut, white-washed or chestnut oak. Whatever style you choose to complete the individual look of your garden room, it’s meticulously finished with painted MDF skirting boards:
    • Smart Oak: The wood-grain pattern and texture creates the appearance of genuine timber, offering stunning depth and character. This, alongside its classic look, ensures it blends with any décor.
    • Tawny Chestnut: This timeless chestnut tone introduces character and warm organic textures to your garden room and works particularly well with a muted colour scheme.
    • White Washed: A great choice for enhancing a stripped-back neutral look, or lightening up darker and bolder colour schemes. These white-washed floorboards nicely ‘open up’ smaller rooms and their striking pale grain detail evokes organic charm in rural and Nordic themed rooms. The matt finish is easy to wipe clean, whilst the laminate material ensures it is low maintenance.
    • Chestnut Oak: When you want a darker floor to complement your garden room, this rustic chestnut oak style is a great choice. The deep and warm embossed finish works well with both dark and pale walls.
  • Many people want to use electrical items in their garden rooms. When it comes to the size of the armoured cable for a garden office, this will depend on the overall expected power consumption. But this is a specialist area that you may want to discuss with your electrician.
  • While we do not currently offer a completely soundproof solution for our garden rooms, we do offer a noise reduction pack that can help to reduce the transmission of sound through the walls, floors, and ceilings of the garden building. This pack includes sound-reducing insulation, a sound-reducing membrane, and acoustic glass. The insulation and membrane work together to effectively reduce the transfer of sound to approximately -45db, while the acoustic glass helps to reduce the transmission of sound through windows and doors. However, it is important to note that the acoustic glass is the least effective component of the noise reduction pack, and the more glass is included in your garden room, the less effective the pack will be at reducing noise. If you have any questions about our noise reduction pack or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
  • Building a garden room on a budget is a challenging task. Garden rooms are often large projects that require specialist skills and premium materials. Otherwise you will end up with something more like a garden shed that is too cold in the winter. Contact Into The Garden Room instead and find out about our high-quality garden rooms suitable for a wide range of budgets.
  • We spend between 6 and 8 weeks on the construction stage of our timber garden rooms. The construction phase involves laying the foundations, installing insulation, making it watertight, installing the plumbing and electrics, plastering and painting. A big job, but we’re sure you’ll love the final result. It’s a specialist task and one that we have mastered over the years. ““
  • Insulating a garden office floor can be quite a large and specialist job, so you will need the right equipment and skills. Or you can just leave it up to us. All of our garden rooms are insulated to the highest standard in the floors as well as the walls and ceilings, and we also use double-glazed glass to ensure you can use your garden room in comfort even in the coldest winter months. ““
