Common Questions
Why a Garden Studio?
Will I need planning permission for a garden room?
When it comes to installing a bespoke garden room, there are several legal and regulatory requirements to consider, and one of the most important is planning permission. Whether you need planning permission for your garden room depends on a variety of factors, including the size of the building, its location, and its intended use.
At Into The Garden Room, our team of experts has extensive experience in navigating the planning permission process. We will work with you to assess your needs and help determine whether or not you need planning permission for your garden room.
In general, planning permission is not required for small, single-story garden rooms that are not intended for permanent habitation and are located within the boundaries of your property. However, if your garden room is larger, taller, or closer to a boundary, planning permission may be required.
For example, the overall size of the garden room must be no larger than 10m x 10m, and the eaves must be no higher than 2.5 metres. If you live in a conservation area, you would need to build behind the rear elevation of your house for the garden room to fall under permitted development.
If planning permission is necessary, our team will guide you through the application process, providing all the information you need to make an informed decision. We’ll make sure the process is as straightforward and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on getting the garden room of your dreams. Can I use my garden room all year round?
Yes, they’re so well insulated that they can be used throughout the year. All our garden rooms benefit from the thermal expertise we use to build our houses, and also come with a heater for those rare snowy days!
How to build a soundproof garden studio?
While we do not currently offer a completely soundproof solution for our garden rooms, we do offer a noise reduction pack that can help to reduce the transmission of sound through the walls, floors, and ceilings of the garden building. This pack includes sound-reducing insulation, a sound-reducing membrane, and acoustic glass.
The insulation and membrane work together to effectively reduce the transfer of sound to approximately -45db, while the acoustic glass helps to reduce the transmission of sound through windows and doors.
However, it is important to note that the acoustic glass is the least effective component of the noise reduction pack, and the more glass is included in your garden room, the less effective the pack will be at reducing noise.
If you have any questions about our noise reduction pack or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
How much value does a garden room add?
There is no set rule about how much value a garden room can add to your property, but there’s a good chance it can increase the value of your home by anything up to 15%. However, that’s only true if the garden room is of a high quality. A low-quality garden building could have the opposite effect.
